That annoying background noise :(( [SOLVED]
I have a problem with my mic, which is an extraordinary mic unlike the previous one, the volume is much higher and all but it still produces a background buzz. It could be because I'm recording at my laptop . I'm recording myself in my bedroom which is pretty quiet. Usually, my mic doesn't record other unwanted noises except this buzz.
My mic is Logitech http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-980240-0403-Desktop-Microphone/dp/B00022TNHM
Here's a sample:

I can easily get rid of it in Audacity, but then the sound gets distorted.
How can I improve my recording conditions?

DeeDee-san,
The problem seems to be your microphone input.
A microphone converts wave flows into energy that's transported through the jack into the computer creating sound.
In this case, the jack itself is making the buzzing noise in your recording. The case being there is something wrong with your mic jack or input on your pc.
Try these steps:
1) Try connecting it to another mic port on your pc (if you have another port)
2) Try turning your mic jack clockwise or counterclockwise until the buzzing stops
3) Lightly dust off the jack and/or input (there could be dirt in the connection)
4) Try plugging in a different mic and see if it does the same. (if the other mic works, it's your mic cable malfunctioning, so you might need to re solder(take the cables apart and re connect them using fire) the cable [which I don't recommend unless you're a pro] or get a new mic.)
If all fails, there's the option on compressing or EQing your vocals until the buzzing is removed.
I hope this helps. If the problem persists, let me know and I can help you EQ your vocals.

Re: That annoying background noise :(( [SOLVED]
Thanks, your suggestions were great, but the problem wasn't solved, unfortunately so I think I will have to rely on compressing and EQ-ing the recordings.
Please tell me how to do it!

I'm not sure if this was the same problem as mine, but what I did for my microphone was go to the Master Volume Control area, Go to Options > Properties > Recording > OK. Then I think a smaller window should pop up saying Recording Control. Then underneath Microphone, click Advanced and deselect Microphone Boost if it's on.
Microphone Boosts "boosts" the sensitivity of microphone and if it's selected for me, I hear a heck lot of noise even if it's completely quiet.
Hope that could help.

V-chan's suggestions is also applicable. =]
How to eq your vocals on audacity:
Start out by normalizing your vocals
-effect>normalize>ok
Then eq:
-effect>equalization
The weird buzzy noise is coming from the lower frequencies so what you do is drop to zero from 30Hz to 300Hz and then drop again at 1000Hz.
It should look like this:
Once that is done, hit "Ok" and you're done.
This process on audacity doesn't completely rid of the buzzing noise, but it does reduce it drastically.
I hope this helped.
If you have any other questions or if you still seem to be having trouble, please let me know. =]

Re: That annoying background noise :(( [SOLVED]
Thank you so much Variegeta and Moonlight-KurochiMisa!!!
I did what you said and the background buzz was reduced drastically, now my auditions will improve a lot^^ thanks again, you guys^^

after: http://www.4shared.com/file/244950736/a2f89cb4/sample_afterEQ.html
A quick recording of Magnet, small sample.
The first time I tried this equalization thing, instead of making that line like Moonlight-KurochiMisa's picture, I kept everything at 0, because I couldn't figure out how to do that keying (so I had one horizontal line). The volume went down, but so did the noise.^^ Then I did it again, this time the line looked exactly like Misa's and the effect wasn't so strong. Anyway, for "after", I displayed my best result.
That weird vibe thingy is due to the fact that my volume went past the red line...otherwise, it's perfect^^
